This programme looks at the British Rail era of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Severn Tunnel Junction - the busy marshalling yard was still in operation when our camera visited in 1986 and 1987. Freight and passenger trains, with class 47s, HSTs, DMUs, classes 25, 31, 37, 45 are the most common types in action.

Midlands Runabout: Toton, Burton-on-Trent and Derby all feature with class 20s on coal and steel, class 37s, 45s, 47s ,58s, an HST power car on test and triple-headed 37s are just some of those featured.

Mossend - Scotland’s busiest yard in the early 1990s as we pay a visit in February 1991. Classes 20, 26, 37, 47, 60, 85 and 90 all appear on a mixture of light-engine, coal, steel, ore and other freight workings.

West Somerset - the mainline to Exeter is covered from Taunton to Norton Fitzwarren and Wellington. Class 31, 33, 37,43, 47, 50 and HST are the main classes witnessed in action.

Crewe Station - WCML electrics as well as class 20s and 47s are seen on a variety of workings from the summer of 1991.
